Grandparent's Guide to Second Generation Planning

Even though your children are now grown with families of their own, there are many reasons you may still worry about them. Your list of concerns for your adult children and your grandchildren is probably a never ending one, especially since many adult children of baby boomers do not have a simple Will in place. Even more do not have a comprehensive estate plan that will provide care for their family should something happen to them before their children are grown. Couple their lack of an estate plan with the very real possibility that the assets or wealth you envision passing on to them can quite easily be lost to divorces, remarriages, custody battles, lawsuits, and/or simple poor money management.

Sadly, studies show that most wealth is lost within three generations because heirs are not properly prepared and assets are not protected with an estate plan. If your adult children have no estate plan of their own in place, there are many ways they can quickly lose the hard-earned inheritance you plan to pass on, as well as the one they plan to leave to your grandchildren. Luckily, these are preventable losses through proper estate planning.

This report examines why planning for the future should not end with you, the first generation, and how your adult children can put an estate plan in place to protect their own family and hard-earned assets for future generations to come.
